BLESSINGS OF ST. JOHN'S
By Norma Bruns
To St. John’s font we brought our sons and daughters
As newborn babes. Some came when they were grown,
And in the washing of baptismal waters, Children of God,
Called His very own.
In Sunday School, in the Christmas program –
An angel, Mary, Joseph, Shepard, King.
Upon the stage we’d say our recitation,
And of the love of Jesus we’d all sing.
We had two years of confirmation classes.
The catechism, Bible lessons learned.
Then with our classmates knelt before the altar
Affirmed our faith, and we were confirmed.
I watched my bride walk down the aisle toward me.
Before the altar we each said “I do”
We asked God’s blessing on our life together
And promised to each other to be true.
The blessings of St. John’s, our whole lives through,
Help keep us close, dear Savior, Lord, to you.
